Remembering There and Back Again Link-up - The Desolation of Smaug

It's been so fun reviewing/remembering these movies! Here's the Desolation of Smaug--

Favourite Character
Myrtle: ...
Les: (and I quote) "Thorin & Nephews + Thranduil & Son & Tauriel + Bard & Family
...with a [redeemed] dragon and every other elf included for good measure."
S. F.: Oh, you already know my favourites. (The above listed and Bilbo.)

Favourite Actor
Myrtle: Luke Evans, John Bell, the Dwarves( especially sick Kili), Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, the Wizards.
Les: All of the above. Don't forget the fine performances of Lee Pace and Orlando Bloom!
S. F.:Yeah, the ones above mentioned.
Favourite Actress
Myrtle:All the females in the movie.
Les: Peggy and Mary Nesbitt (Sigrid and Tilda).
S. F.: See above.

Favourite Quote/Line
Myrtle:"I belong with my brother.", 'Are we not part of this world?"
Les: "I belong with my brother." ~ Fili + "I am fire... I am death." ~ Smaug
S. F.:
"Balin: In truth, lad, I do not know what you will find down there. You needn't go if you don't want to. There's no dishonor in turning back...
Bilbo: No... no, Balin, I promised that I would do this, and I think that I must try.
Balin: It never ceases to amaze me.
Bilbo: What's that?
Balin: The courage of hobbits."
And "If this is to end in fire, then we shall all burn together."

Favourite Soundtrack
Myrtle:"Feast of Starlight", "Laketown Theme".
Les: "Beyond the Forest" (take heed in listening to it as it can easily induce feels!)
S. F.: Erebor (Doesn't it just give you the chills?) and the Courage of Hobbits.
Favourite Friendship
Myrtle: See below.
Les: Sibling friendships again: Fili/Kili and Sigrid/Bain/Tilda.
S. F.: Hmm... besides the ones mentioned? The various friendships between Thorin/Balin/Dwalin/Bilbo.

Favourite Costume
Myrtle:The elves,Bard's children's.
Les: The costumes of my favourite characters, of course!
S. F.: The brilliant blue jacket of Mister Baggins and the epic scarlet cape of King Oakenshiled. And I can't forget King Thranduil's fabulous cloak. (Let me be honest, I love Tauriel's green outfit.)

Favourite Weapon
Myrtle: Tilda's plate and Bain's bench.
Les: The bows and arrows of Legolas and Tauriel.
S. F.: Well, I must give some credit to Bard for his improvised weapons. And all the knives were epic!

Favourite Minor-Character
Myrtle: Sigrid, Bain, Tilda, Percy, Hilda Bianca (her)
Les: Bard's darling children.
S. F.: I must say, Tilda's doll and the Black Arrow were mighty fine characters. ;)

Favourite Scene
Myrtle: Orcs attacking Bard's house was a great action one, and we get to see more of Sigrid, Bain and Tilda, Tauriel heals Kili, and Balin talking to Bilbo, and what Les said.
Les: When Fili refuses to leave his brother; Tauriel's beautiful speech on starlight.
S. F.: The ones Les and Myrtle mentioned, plus the Bilbo meeting Smaug. And the whole scene from when the dwarves cross the lake to the Mountain to when Thorin and Balin enter. Oh! And my very most favourite may be when Bilbo climbs the tree in Mirkwood.

Favourite Screen Shot
Myrtle:

Les: Beorn's lovely ponies against a gorgeous NZ background~

S. F.:

Favourite Location
Myrtle:The Throne Room of the Lonely Mountain.
Les: The location of the bridge leading into the Thranduil's Halls was beautifully designed (image).
S. F.: Does the tree tops of Mirkwood count? Beorn's house had some great details.

Did You Cry?
Myrtle: Mmm... I don't think so.
Les: When we first meet Smaug and his theme song played, aye.
S. F.:I didn't think I would, and then I saw this shot and heard the Erebor theme~
And then I cried.
Did You Dress Up As Anything?
Myrtle: Fili! I quite liked that costume. The gloves especially.
Les: Yes, I went as Kili!
S. F.: Yep! I was Bilbo Baggins--red coat, green waist-coat, and all. When we were outside the cinema, I was very cold in my hobbity costume, meanwhile Fili and Kili had the advantage of coats. Ehehe! But then it was all okay once we came inside. To celebrate today, I'm wearing my waistcoat.

Did You Watch it at a Theater?
All: Yes, on a chilly December 14th 2013. :)

What Are Your Personal Thoughts on the Movie?
Myrtle: I really enjoyed returning to Middle Earth, but was a bit sad knowing there would be only one more movie after this. To counter that,I looked at it like this: The Lord of the Rings was made before The Hobbit, but the story happens afterwards. Creating a circle. A ring... that has no end.
Les: Two years have passed since I watched it first, and from then to now I would say personally it was a grand adventure with exquisite music and powerfully interwoven themes of loyalty, pride vs. humility, the importance of love and respect in the family, kindness, and the consequences poor choices have on others. So be true to all that is good!
S. F.: DOS was the Hobbit film that I was the most excited about. It led us on the continuation of our journey there and back again with Bilbo. There was tense moments, sad moments, and then of course there were moments of stillness and moments to make you smile. I liked that we were shown the in-between part of the adventure--the plot and characters were developing, and we still were on the edge of our seats wondering about the next part.

Remembering There and Back Again Link-up - An Unexpected Journey

Oh my! We're a bit behind. :) Well, without further ado. . .

Favourite Character
Myrtle: Fili, Kili, Gandalf, and Myrtle the Pony.
Les: Confession: before I watched AUJ in theatres I was quite unfamiliar with the story of The Hobbit. Therefore, I referred to my favourites upon first observing it as "the dwarf buds." One was blond, the other an archer. Hmm, any guesses? ☺ And of course the elves were a favourite as well.
S. F.: You all probably know the answer, because it's none other than Bilbo Baggins himself. :) But, to say a bit more, after watching it for the first time my favourites were Fili and Kili.

Favourite Actor
Myrtle:You got me there!
Les: (see above)
S. F.: They all were brilliant, though I think my favourite was Oscar Strik. (Little Bilbo.) ;) *squeal* Click here to see.

Favourite Actress
Myrtle:Cate Blanchett. That one was very easy to narrow down!
Les: (see above)
S. F.: Now, this is very limited, and I'm not sure who to answer... :)

Favourite Quote/Line
Myrtle: "Quickly, all of you!" ~ Thorin (Sounds like he's saying "Quickly, I love you!) and "Kili, grab my hand!" ~ Fili
Les: "I've found it is the small things; everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay... simple acts of kindness, and love." ~ Gandalf the Grey
S. F.:  "Look, I know you doubt me.I know you always have. And you're right, I often think of Bag-End. I miss my books. And my armchair, and my garden. See, that's where I belong. That's home. And that's why I came back. Because... you don't have one. A home. It was taken from you. But I will help you take it back if I can." ~Bilbo Baggins

Favourite Soundtrack
Myrtle: Misty Mountains.
Les: "The Hidden Valley" (link)
S. F.: "Dreaming of Bag-end". This song. . . *FEELS*

Favourite Friendship
Myrtle: The brotherhood of Fili and Kili.
Les: Sibling friendships are very close to home for me, so that of Fili and Kili was heartwarming.
S. F.:  I really liked the friendship between Bilbo and the Dwarves that evolves though the trilogy, especially the friendship of Bilbo and Bofur.

Favourite Costume
Myrtle: All the dwarves.
Les: Galadriel's wardrobe (elven garb in general). Also, delightfully quaint was the first outfit we see younger Bilbo in.
S. F.: All of Bilbo's outfits, and hobbit outfits in general.

Favourite Weapon
Myrtle: Gandalf's staff and Ori's sling-shot.
Les: The bow and arrows of Kili the dwarf + the elven weaponry.
S. F.: I'll have to go with Sting--the letter opener. ;)

Favourite Minor-Character
Myrtle: Lindir.
Les: Those nameless elven musicians at the dinner in Rivendell.
S. F.: SEBASTIAN!

Favourite Scene
Myrtle: Blunt the Knives.
Les: The last scene, especially Thorin's speech to Bilbo.
S. F.: The ones listed above, as well as the entry to Rivendell, the Misty Mountains scene (when they're singing), and the "I'm going on an adventure!" scene.

Favourite Screen Shot
Myrtle:

Les:

S. F.:

Favourite Location
Myrtle: Hobbiton and Dale/Lonely Mountain.
Les: Imladris, The Last Homely House East of the Sea.
S. F.: Bag-end (and all of Hobbiton), plus the gorgeous locations in "Over Hill".

Did You Cry?
Myrtle: No.
Les: Almost when my favourite location's theme song began playing.
S. F.: Nope!

Did You Dress Up As Anything?
All: We went as elven maidens.

Did You Watch it at a Theater?
All: yes, on the opening day.

What Are Your Personal Thoughts on the Movie?
Myrtle: I think AUJ was the most like the middle earth from Lord of the Rings . DOS and BOTFA didn't quite feel the same.
Les: AUJ introduced me to the world of The Hobbit; I read the book after watching it, so my first thoughts about it were rather limited to my knowledge of LOTR. Sir Peter Jackson's interpretation of Tolkien's masterpiece was well done. Bravo!
S. F.: I like the light-heartedness that comes with it being the first film. It makes me happy. :) I love re-watching it and noticing all the details. This movie is a wonderful start of an unforgettable adventure! "Home is behind you, the world is ahead."

One Month. One Last Time.

"If this is to end in fire, then we will all burn together."
"Will you follow me, one last time?"

Is it just me, or does Thorin have some epic quotes?
The end draws nigh. We have but thirty more days.
Someone help us.
One month.
One last time.
One ring to rule them all.

Official Trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The Official Trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies = NO.
Most of you have already watched it, but if you haven't, I don't know if I should tell you to or tell you not to. It is not okay.

I mean, look at the image it shows before you click play of Thorin. Look at the look in his eye! Does any one else want to go shake Thorin really hard and make him see what he's become? Though there's that one heart braking shot of him with Kili and they're both smiling. . .
Speaking of Kili-- no, wait, I don't think you want to get me started on Fili (why did we barely see any Fili?!) and Kili or this post would most likely never finish.

Bilbo mace me want to cry. Why shouldn't he? He's a hobbit who likes a quiet life and here he is talking about war? That is not okay!

The Mirkwood elves. . .I just. . .I mean. . .no, no, no.

The White Council . . . what is going on?

Bard. . .what? What?!

Everyone and everything else. . .Nope.

There you go. That is my review thing. I don't know what December 17th holds for us, but. . .no...

~ S.  F.

ps.-- when I clicked on the trailer on YouTube, it said that it couldn't be watched with Safety Mode on. Smart thing.

pps.-- these posters are not okay~

Three Days More

The Hobbit just announced this on FaceBook. They said there will be a trailer in three days.
Exciting, no?
~ S. F. (who is keeping herself from fangirling so this isn't a crazy post.)

ps.--That picture of our Durins. Nope. Nope. Nope.
